Verizon announced a deal with an apartment complex owner – Southern Management Corp. to provide TV and Internet to more than 18,000 apartments in Virginia and Maryland by yearend. Such multi-dwelling units (MDUs) provide a good opportunity for TV providers, such as Verizon FiOS because serving one structure, in turn provides the possibility of signing up numerous customers for service and service bundles.

However, Verizon has encountered challenges when attempting to deploy FiOS TV in dense areas of New York and Washington, D.C. Under this agreement with Southern Management, Verizon will eventually bring its services to the company’s 24,000 residential apartments in Maryland and Virginia. Southern Management is a Virginia-based company that provides apartment communities to residents, including student, military and corporate housing. The company claims to be the largest privately owned residential property management company n the mid-Atlantic region. Verizon FiOS Internet service delivered Internet access with maximum downstream connection speeds up to 50Mbps and an upstream speed of up to 20Mbps.
